VP Debate: Biden Gets Many Facts Wrong

October 3, 2008

Biden Factually Incorrect:

Biden said: McCain voted on the same way on the budget resolution as Obama did. [FALSE]

Answer: Those votes were held on 3/14 and 6/4, McCain votes no, Obama voted yes. In that resolution, there is a provision calling for a tax increase starting on people making as low $42,000/year.

Biden said: Under Obama people will not pay more taxes than they did under Reagan. [FALSE]

Answer: The top rate under Reagan was 28% and under Clinton it was 39.5% … Obama wants to increase it to 39.5%

Biden said: It would take at least ten years to get any oil from new production. [FALSE]

Answer: Not true, it would take a year or two in some instances.

Biden said: The “Use of Force” resolution was NOT a war resolution / authorization for war. [FALSE]

Answer: Yes it was.

Biden said: McCain voted the same way Obama did with funding the troops. [FALSE]

Answer: Look at the final passage vote, McCain voted yes, Obama voted no to funding the troops.

Biden said: The United States spends more in three weeks in Iraq as we have in the past seven years in Afghanistan. [FALSE]

Answer: That is inaccurate – no spending figures support that assertion.

Biden said: That Article I of the Constitution refers to the Executive branch. [FALSE]

Answer: Article I refers to the Legislative Branch – (and he graduated from law school and serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee in charge of the federal courts)

Biden said: He said there was a windfall profits tax in Alaska. [FALSE]

Answer: No there is no such tax.

Biden said: McCain opposed President Clinton on Bosnia. [FALSE]

Answer: Incorrect

Biden said: Pakistan could hit Israel with a nuclear missle. [FALSE]

Answer: Pakistan is 2,198 miles away from Israel, their longest range missle has a range of 1200 miles.

Sounds Like Socialism Quote of the Night: “We don’t call it redistribution we call that ‘fairness’.” – Joe Biden

  1. You cant just say “Yes it was” or “Incorrect” wow you have no credibility in your answers. All that represents is that you are in SERIOUS denial.

  2. Good work, appreciate the facts

  3. “All that represents is that you are in SERIOUS denial.”

    Incorrect.

  4. May want to add

Biden: Iran is no where close to nuclear weapons {FALSE)

IAEA projects Iran will have Nuclear weapons capability within 2 years

  5. For anyone who thinks the false statements by Biden are an “opinion”, WRONG. Go do your homework and check the Congressional archieves as I have and you will see Biden statements were FALSE (MEANING WRONG).

The reason someone says FaLSE is because Biden was THERE in THE SENATE AND KNOWS SPECIFICALLY WHO DID OR DID NOT VOTE, and HE KNEW IT LAST NIGHT

    Who is in denial?

  6. Er, you’re wrong on a few accounts. I’m not going to take the time to research every point, but I would suggest you either do better research or change the name of your blog.

    You said:

“Those votes were held on 3/14 and 6/4, McCain votes no, Obama voted yes. In that resolution, there is a provision calling for a tax increase starting on people making as low $42,000/year.”

Incorrect. Check the Senate voting record. McCain did not vote on 3/14 or 6/4 (which means Biden was wrong).

    You said:

“Article I refers to the Legislative Branch – (and he graduated from law school and serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee in charge of the federal courts)”

Actually, he was referencing the mention of the role of the vice president (an executive) in Article I. I give to you the language from Article I:

“The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.”

Article I explicitly refers to the executive branch (as evidenced above). Please read the Constitution before making baseless statements in the future.

Honestly, I’d spend more time going through and picking your assertions apart, but I can’t be bothered. That’s not to say that Biden didn’t lie, or mung the facts, but your research and conclusions are patently nebulous.

  7. Common sense says that some of the “facts” by Biden make no sense ( we spent more $$ in Iraq in 3 weeks than in 7 yrs in AFghan). That seems impossible

Problem with these debates is so many “facts” and figures are thrown out. No way most Americans can verify, will know where to verify, or how to verify the validity.

One thing that can be verified.

Biden did say he d never run as a vice president and Biden did say he thought Mc Cain would be a good commander in chief……..all prior to Mr Obabma askign Biden to be his VP.

    HMMM.

Those are two very strong statements to reverse. If he said it 20 years ago, one may give him a pass. But just 150 days ago??

  8. Pakistan is more dangerous because they actually have nukes in their possession and Iran does not. Obviously, you need to go after the unstable country that does have nukes.

  9. You can clearly say false or incorrect – especially when you are faced with proving a negative. Biden made false statements. [CORRECT]

  10. Here’s another Biden mistake: he said NATO drove the Hezballah out of Lebanon, and NATO wasn’t even in Lebanon! The people who think Biden did well in the debate were impressed with erroneous information he delivered with conviction. Rather than challenge him on all his misstatements, Palin chose to make the case for herself as a knowledgeable, principled, gutsy reformer, and boy, did she ever make it! The Thrilla From Wazilla won the match hands down.

  11. Here is a great blurb on the Lebanon gaffe – http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/03/mother-of-all-gaffes/

  12. Biden: Spain is an ally who is with us in Iraq (FALSE).

Fact: Spain left Iraq in 2004 after the election of the anti-American socialist government of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

  13. “Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we’ve had probably in American history. The idea he doesn’t realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that’s the Executive Branch.” – Biden

    U.S. Constitution
    Article I:
    Section 1.
All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

Article I is strictly about the Legislative Branch.

    Article II:
    Section 1.
The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:

Article II is about the Executive Branch.

  14. Biden and OBAMA will destroy this country. No ands / ifs / or buts…… They will turn America into a Socialist country and they will have a democratic congress and house to help them. Who will help us….
